چکیده
Abstract Introduction Currently, patients listed for Laparoscopic cholecystectomy and Appendicectomy undergo routine Blood Grouping Saving (G&S) pre-operatively. transfusion administration in this context is a rare occurrence. Processing of G&S samples takes approximately 45 minutes costs £31 per sample. This excludes the phlebotomy junior doctor resources sample collection, which incurs additional costs. We retrospectively assessed blood requirements those who underwent either laparoscopic appendicectomy or last 18 months at busy District General Hospital (Milton Keynes Hospital) to determine if there were any potential resource savings that could have been made. Method Retrospective case notes analysis had from January 2019 June 2020 focusing on timing G&S, preoperative postoperative haemoglobin, number units transfused. Detection of ABO blood groups through agglutination is the basis of pre-transfusion testing. However, weak agglutination reactions may be obtained with reagent antibodies and are a result of weak expression of A and B antigens on red blood cell surface which may cause a discrepancy in blood group typing. Here, we report a donor which showed discrepancy between red blood cells (forward) and seru...

A considerable amount of elective surgery can now be undertaken on a day-case or short-stay basis--23-hour or 72-hour stay. Such changes to modern surgery are transforming surgical nursing as a result of the reduced levels of physical care traditionally required by elective surgical patients. Brief hospital stay and self-care have become the greater part of preparation for, and recovery from, e...

METHODS A retrospective review of all patients who underwent day-case laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication over a 4-year period ...
